Next time try buying a dye or dye remover and putting it on the shield to see what happens.

He is just being sarcastic that its easy to get a dye and try it yourself since dyes are cheap

I attempt to dye my shield of the wing every other day. I'm hoping one day I'll get lucky and it'll actually apply the dye. This doesn't really make sense but w/e. The answer is no. You can't dye it. And there are a few other things I've come across that won't dye as well, don't remember what tehy are :P but they're not greens or anything, just normal stuff.
